CANCER RESEARCH ONLINE MADE EASY

BREAST-ONC. MAILING LIST

Here is an example of what you have to do to join a list.

1.      Click on one of the lists. As an example I’ll click on the first list under breast cancer –  the Breast-Onc list.

2. Click on Join or leave the list (or change settings). You’ll then see this:

3.    Type in your email address and then click on Join the list.

4.    An email will be sent to you with a confirmation code.

Follow the instructions in the email to confirm that you

     wish to join the list.

5.    The first time you attempt to log in you’ll have to

     select a password.

Once you have joined a list, you’ll be able to read the archives of messages and post your own questions to the list.

Here is what you’ll see after you have joined a list and logged in. For this example I’ve logged into the Prostate Cancer archives:

Just click on any date and start reading the messages. You’ll see different questions that have been asked and the various answers to those questions.

Some of the questions may be very interesting and relevant to you and others less so.

You can also search the archives for any subjects that are especially important to you. To search, click on Search the archives.

And, finally, you can ask your own questions to the list by clicking on Post to the list.

I can’t tell you how valuable these online support groups are.

Searching the medical literature can be very technical and dry. But, the online support groups provide the personal component that is so necessary.

Imagine being able to communicate with other patients who are in exactly the same situation as yourself. You’ll be able to learn what information they’ve gathered and what their doctors are recommending.

If you’re concerned with side effects you’ll be able to ask patients specific questions about what they’ve experienced.
