Step 7 Search for PUB MED review articles (optional but recommended) Look at the list again that we were looking at in step 6:
Just above article number 1 you see the following line: All 641 Review 109 This means that this list is composed of 641 articles and that 109 of them are review articles. As I mentioned previously, review articles are extremely helpful since the authors have reviewed the medical literature in writing the review article. Now click on Review and you will get a list just of these 109 articles. Here is the beginning of the list.
To read the abstracts, click on the articles that have black or green horizontal lines in the file folder to the left. For example, here is article number 2 which discusses the role of MRI in the planning of breast cancer surgery:
As you can see these reviews are highly informative. You actually may only want to read review articles. What if the results still aren’t on the topic I want? If you’ve done the Related Articles step a number of times and still aren’t happy with the results, then I suggest that you go back to step 1 and enter different search terms. Try to use synonyms for non- medical words and specific medical terms for medical words.
